Scripture Reflection

Martha or Mary?
Martha was busy making the dinner while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, listening to him.  Are you a “Martha” or a “Mary”?

The world in which we live seems to get busier and busier with each passing day. Our list of things to do is endless, and life, in general, seems frantic most of the time. But in the midst of the chaos Jesus is calling in his gentle whisper, “Come, come and spend time with me.  I am waiting for you.  Rest in my presence.  Let the light of my love shine upon you, bringing you strength of mind and body, comfort, healing, peace and forgiveness.”

Even Jesus needed time alone with his heavenly Father.  In the same way that we need food and water for our very existence, we need to be spiritually nourished.  We need to spend time at the Master’s feet, listening to the gentle voice of the Spirit.  We need to be in the presence of Jesus just as much as we need fresh air, for without it we cannot spiritually thrive.

Abraham listened and obeyed, and the result was nothing short of a miracle.  God kept his promise and gave Abraham and Sarah, in their old age, a son of their own flesh and blood.
