Lent 2019

The season of Lent begins this week on Wednesday –
5 March
.  It is a time to focus on our spiritual life by turning away from sin and committing ourselves more fully to following Jesus Christ.

Here in the parish there are many ways to take part in the Lent traditions of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Ash Wednesday –
Masses in All Saints’ Church 7 30am, 10 00am, 1 10pm & 7 30pm.

Fast & Abstinence – Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence.  Fasting means that we eat just one main meal and two small snacks.

Abstinence means that we don’t eat meat.  The obligation of fasting and abstinence applies to Catholics aged between 14-60 years

old who are in good health.

Many people choose to abstain from alcohol during Lent. Please consider taking the short- term Lenten Pledge Lenten Pledge -

I promise in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and with the help of the Blessed Virgin Mary to abstain from all alcoholic drink during Lent.

Stations of the Cross will be prayed each weekday at 12noon.

Lent DevotionsVespers and Benediction, the traditional evening prayer of the Church, will be celebrated on the six Sunday evenings

of Lent in All Saints’ Church at 7 00pm.  Begins next Sunday (10 March).

Trocaire Lent Appeal – Trocaire boxes will be available to collect in our churches during Lent and returned on Holy Thursday.

Trocaire was established by the Catholic Church in 1973 as a way for Irish people to donate to development and emergency relief overseas.
